 league history
The Fairfax Adult Flag Football League started in 1975 with 6 teams and was called the Reston-Herndon Flag League.

Back then there were only 6 to 10 teams playing in the league each year. This continued until 1979 when the league merged with the Fairfax County Touch league which had 16 teams. The league was then renamed the Fairfax County Touch-Flag League.

As more teams saw flag being played they began to switch from touch to flag and by 1985 most of the touch leagues had folded. Since that time there have been at least 48 teams playing in the league each year.

Adult Coed Flag Football was added in 1988 and now averages about 16 teams each year.

The Fairfax Adult Flag Football League offers all levels of play with an A, B, and C division and the ability to play games during the week under the lights continues to bring more teams to the league.

The Fairfax Adult Flag Football League is the largest league in the Virginia State and National association.League founder Butch Hicks started playing flag football in the Alexandria Flag League in 1967. He continued to play until
1980. He started his team in 1972 and has had a team every year. Butch started the Fairfax Adult Flag Football League when there was no flag football league in the county. He served as league commissioner from 1975 to 2002, and remains an inspiration to our sport.
